Marshals' Training Page
Introduction:
This page will guide you through the training policy and requirements to attain and keep your grading. All training will conform to and in certain areas exceed the requirements set at national level set by MSA (the controlling body for South African Motor sport).
During your training and time with the marshals you will learn some of the organizational aspects, control and race day protocol. As motor sport is dangerous the emphasis will be VERY SAFETY orientated. Unlike some circuits each section with the exception of the specialized sections (Pits, Flag and Fire) move one corner forward at each race meeting giving you a very good grounding in all aspects of the circuit and hopefully will present new challenges to relieve complacency. As we marshal various forms of motor sport your training will include Karting, Short Circiut and Drag Racing. For those who wish further training will be given in 4x4 Challenges and though not part of our current resonsibility we will assist and encourage MX and Oval Track marshaling.
The MSA requirements for marshaling is dictated by the "White Book" which is covered in the "GCRs" (General Competion Rules) and include the following which must be adhered to. Each marshal is required to belong to a club afiliated to MSA and will have to have MSA insurance for officials.
Your training will start from the moment you join. You will be given the following forms to fill in and complete. A club Membership Appilcation Form. A MSA insurance form and a Grade 1 Training form which will be signed off by the Post Chief/Chief Marshal of the events listed on it. This forms part of your training and will only be signed off if you are exposed to and handle yourself appropriately at one or more incidents for the day. You will also be given a Marshals Handbook which you will have to read and understand. You will be required to complete a written exam before attaining your grading as a Grade 2 Marshal. - More on grading requirements below.
The training is offered within the guidelines defined in the Marshals Training Schedule
